check-va-api fails on Intel iHD driver (again): invalid parameter (18)
Steps to reproduce
- Lenovo X280, Core i7-8650U (8th gen, Kaby Lake R), integrated UHD Graphics 620 (Gen9)
- Debian unstable, up to date as of approximately 2023-09-06
-
intel-media-va-driver-non-free:amd64
package installed - Run
vainfo
- Build steam-runtime-tools
- for example with
./build-aux/many-builds.py setup; ./build-aux/many-builds.py build
- or replicate what it does, see source code for details; the
_build/host
build is just a reasonably comprehensive x86_64 build with warnings and sanitizers
- for example with
- Run
./_build/host/helpers/x86_64-linux-gnu-check-va-api
Expected result
At least one of the three tests (H264Main decoding, MPEG2Simple decoding, or postprocessing) succeeds.
For each (profile, entry point) pair that we know how to test, if it's listed in vainfo
, our test succeeds.
Actual result
vainfo
lists all three pairs that we know how to test:
- (VAProfileH264Main, VAEntrypointVLD)
- (VAProfileMPEG2Simple, VAEntrypointVLD)
- (VAProfileNone, VAEntrypointVideoProc)
but they all fail.
Without !587 (merged):
libva info: VA-API version 1.19.0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so
libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_19
libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0
Testing H264Main decoding
vaCreateBuffer (va_display, context, VAPictureParameterBufferType, in_pic_param_size, 1, in_pic_param, &pic_param_buf) failed: invalid VAContextID (5)
Testing MPEG2Simple decoding
vaCreateBuffer (va_display, context, VAPictureParameterBufferType, in_pic_param_size, 1, in_pic_param, &pic_param_buf) failed: invalid VAContextID (5)
Testing post-processing with VAProfileNone
vaCreateBuffer (va_display, context, VAEncMiscParameterBufferType, sizeof (VAEncMiscParameterBuffer) + sizeof (VAEncMiscParameterBufferQualityLevel), 1, NULL, &misc_buf_id) failed: invalid parameter (18)
With !587 (merged), the decoder tests get further, but fail in vaEndPicture
instead; and the postprocessing test is the same:
